2000 Cienega Valley -Gimelli Vineyard
The Cienega Valley appellation lies 25 miles east of Monterey Bay in the shadow of the Gavilan Mountains. For many years we have made wines from Wirz vineyard which adjoins Ken Gimelli’s property, but this is our first pinot noir from the region. While a number of clones exist in the vineyard, this made only from Dijon 115 growing in well drained granitic soils. This combination produced a pretty and elegant wine with a core of red cherry fruit and accents of roses, lavender, and dried herbs. Ten lent toast and smoke aromas, adding length to the palate. We feel this wine will drink well for three to five years
We bottled only 150 cases.
