2000 Chalone - Brosseau Vineyard
This vineyard sits high in the Gavilan mountain range with a commanding view
stretching north to Monterey Bay.At an elevation of nearly 1800 feet,it is above
the fog layer that covers the Salinas Valley, yet benefits from its cooling influence.
Warm days are tempered by considerable wine, and nights are cool, allowing
pinot noir to achieve mature fruit flavors on this site. The soil here is a mix of
granite and limestone that is unique among all of our pinot, and which adds
elegance to the wine. The 2000 vintage has lovely balance, with earthy cherry
fruit supported by hints of woodsmoke from the barrel. The palate is soft,
making the wine enjoyable now.We produced 200 cases.
